Snipeits quick easy guide to gliding!

As everyone knows, gliding is one major crucial skill developed in the map dm_accelerator AKA dm_star_wars. It not only helps you stay alive from the many snipers out there, but also allows you to reach either side of the map in a fraction of the time it takes to do it normally.

First of all, we will need to adjust some settings to ensure optimum performance ability for you to be able to glide properly.

Type the following settings in your game console. (~ to toggle it)

cl_cmdrate 100

cl_updaterate 100

rate 250000

The following settings not only help you glide better, but also make the game more "smoother". A decent graphic card is also required however, to get max. performance.

So now, you have got your settings set, its time to learn.

This screen shot should illustrate the main phases of a general glide. (Mount, air time, dismount)

I will start by explaining each phase of the gliding process, followed by a screen shot.

Mounting/Mount Stage :

This is often known to be the most difficult stage in the entire process, not doing this stage properly, can cost you crucial air time and your life. You must be fast and you must do it properly.

You must jump on to the platform, then hold shift, and left or right, depending which side your on. (So on the left side, you hold shit and left arrow) You do not need to look up, to go up the platform, infact by doing that, the gliding wont work. You just use those two keys, to get up. So practically, your going up at a 45 degree angle. And thats the exact way you should come down. (Dismount)

So summary of step 1 ( Mounting ) : Jump on to the platform while holding shift and the arrow key ( left/right), depending which side of the map your on.

Air time and Dismount :

This is what you want as an outcome of gliding, the air time, not only increases your speed dramatically, but it is also what saves you from snipers and allows you to reach bases fast.

This is one advance tactic I never quite got down... maybe with a little practice and the guide I can get it...

I taught Silver how to glide the other day, and he's OK now.

I should try to use those commands but I just glide without them! does this mean i am going to glide faster lol.

Basically a bit easier and smoother, maybe not faster, bro, don't get your hopes up.

I found that looking straight down helps a lot when gliding.

right when i hit shift i spam the jump button lol

i only shift to jump off the track, then i slide up that ramp baby!

My bro just uninstalled Steam so I have to reinstall everything, reset my settings, find my servers again, and I've lost all my saved games. And I was just about to finish the Imperial Guard campaign in Dawn of War: Soulstorm. (Sob). Thanks anyway, iJames. I needed this to reset the glide

I've beeen doing everything right save for those console commands.

I'll have to try this out later.
